The unexpected twist came when Karan took the opportunity to address the controversial first episode of the season, which showcased the candid conversation with power couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.
In the episode aired on December 14, Karan Johar expressed his disappointment with the negative reactions stemming from the Ranveer-Deepika episode. He candidly shared, “I felt that it was one of the most honest and heartfelt episodes I did with Deepika and Ranveer. I think all three of us kind of came clean on so much of our emotional heft, so many of our feelings. And then there was a ridiculous kind of aftereffect. I just want to put it out there that the episode angered me, and the reaction angered me. I thought it was one of our best episodes.”
Karan continued, expressing frustration with the social media trolling directed at Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. He emphasized the couple’s outstanding honesty, earnestness, and graciousness during the episode. Johar lashed out at the critics, saying, “I am like, ‘What do you know about somebody else’s personal life and marriage?’ Tu apne ghar pe dekh na (Look at what’s happening at your own home) is what I wanted to tell them. I wanted to show them my f*cking middle finger! I am like, you know, just shut up.”
Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone kicked off the eighth season of ‘Koffee With Karan,’ sharing intimate details about their love story and unveiling their wedding video for the first time. Despite the heartfelt moments, the couple faced social media trolling—Ranveer for the way he described his first meeting with Deepika and Deepika for her comments on casual dating.
Karan Johar’s candid revelations about his frustration shed light on the challenges of navigating public perceptions and criticisms in the age of social media.
